EMA – Marked

EMA has released a video for her upcoming single, Marked, which is to be released on November 21 as a limited edition 7″ vinyl.

Taking the distorted rock edge away from her music, Marked sees a more gentle, naive and innocent side to EMA as she sings about a complicated relationship.

The video, shot and produced in-house by live band member Leif Shackelford and Erika M Anderson herself, focuses on strange black and white images of EMA cutting off the layers of her supposed arms which are ‘a see through plastic’. It also stars Alexis Blair Penney….Interested?

Marked firmly sets in stone the idea that EMA and her music are completely absurd yet brilliant. Her raspy voice captures the innocence and confusion in the vocals “I wish that every time he touched me / Left a mark” while the chillingly simple and distant sounding guitar riff intensify the emotions.

Zak Starkey Announces New Band PENGu!NS

Zak Starkey PENGUINS

Explosive new band, PENGu!NS

Former Oasis drummer announced his new band, PENGu!Ns, a few weeks ago.

Zak Starkey, son of Ringo Starr and occasionally drummer for The Who, has had a varied musical career but PENGu!Ns seems to be one of his most outrageous collaborations yet.

The messy, punk rock band are giving away a free download of their debut single, Hate Male, which interestingly tells the story of a guy on a plane who told the singer of the group, Sharna Liguz aka Sshh, to turn her IPod down. You definitely wouldn’t think such a hard, aggressive and catchy rock tune could be written about something so damningly boring but it works.

Take a listen: PENGu!Ns – Hate Male

Van Pierszalowski’s project, Waters, have released a video for their new single, For The One.

Directed by Allen Cordell, who is no stranger to the bizarre, the video focuses on a dream catcher that, when hung the wrong way round, gives you psychedelic and absurd dreams. Just a warning, you may feel like you’re tripping…

Neon Indian – Polish Girl Video

Electro-pop superstar musician, Neon Indian, has recently released a video for his new track, Polish Girl.

Directed by Tim Nackashi, who has directed video for the likes of Ok Go, Death Cab For Cutie and Givers, the video tells the story of a romance between a humanoid and a girl in a futuristic world.

Watch it here:

Neon Indian also performed Polish Girl live on Jimmy Fallon last week. Pairing up with The Creator’s Project, Neon Indian has combined his live performance with ‘dystopian cyper-fantasy’ using impressive light-painting effects which compliment the other-worldy nature of Alan Palomo’s music.

Laura Gibson – Milk-Heavy, Pollen-Eyed

Laura Gibson has just announced that her new album La Grande will be released in January 2012 and in order to celebrate the news, she’s released a free download of her latest track, Milk-Heavy, Pollen-Eyed. There’s also an acoustic video to go with it, you lucky people.

Born in the small town of Coquille, Oregon, Gibson started out by playing solo acoustic gigs at AIDS hospices and kindergartens. Now she is quickly making a name for herself in the modern folk music scene.

Her unique vocals howl through on Milk-Heavy, Pollen-Eyed and compliment the heavier tones and faster tempo of the song.

The beat of the track will have your feet tapping along within a few seconds and you will begin to sway to the melodic folk rhythm.

Her new album, La Grande, is said to bring out Gibson’s inner strength after her previous record, Beast of Seasons, showed her frailty and quietness. La Grande is a record expected to be full of passion and power.

EMA Tour and Nirvana Cover

Now about half way through her European tour, EMA (AKA Erika M Anderson) has recently released her single Anteroom on September 19 alongside a cover of Nirvana’s Endless Nameless.

EMA’s cover of Endless Nameless is strange, to say the least. Mixing her sometimes muffled vocals with extremely distorted and heavy rock sounds makes for some rather odd music, much like the original.

If I’m perfectly honest, I can’t understand a word she’s singing and this track gives me a headache but I don’t think that’s necessarily her cover, the original also hurts my ears.

Not one my favourite Nirvana tracks as it just sounds like some drunk has come in to the studio and trashed it with all the equipment plugged in but others like it and I’m sure others will appreciate this cover too. It’s not for me though.

EMA will be playing these remaining dates on her European tour:
Thur 22 Berlin Germany Festsaal Kreuzberg (w/Ganglians)
Fri 23 Hamburg Germany Reeperbahn Festival
Sat 24 Koln Germany Gerbuade 9
Sun 25 Frankfurt Germany Offenbach
Tue 27 Kufstein Austria
Wed 28 Vienna Austria Badeschiff (Waves Festival)
Thur 29 St. Gallen Switzerland Palace St. Gallen
Fri 30 Dudigen Switzerland Bad Bonn
October
Sat 01 Brussels Belgium Orangerie
November
Wed 23 London, Heaven (w/Zola Jesus)
