Pulled Apart By Horses Release Their First Ever Acoustic Video…And Beer

Leeds quartet Pulled Apart By Horses would like to invite you to drink their Blood to celebrate the release of their third album and first ever live acoustic set.

The band have teamed up with the West Yorkshire Revolutions Brewery to concoct their own unique pale ale made with Blood Oranges and Yorkshire Tea.  The beer will be available for a limited time at specialist pubs throughout the UK.

Named after their forthcoming record, Blood will be launched at The Brudenell Social Club on 29 August 2014 with tickets only available to competition winners who post a photo on Twitter and Instagram of them enjoying their favourite drink with the hashtag #PABHsBlood. The best shots will win a pair of tickets to come to the band’s very first acoustic show – over 18’s only.

Guitarist James Brown comments: “The idea of people drinking our Blood (not literally) is so exciting for us. It’s the kind of thing you talk about a lot but never usually happens so because this has become a reality we really want to celebrate it.”

The descision to accompany the ale launch with their first ever acoustic show follows a session they did recently while in The Netherlands, trying their hand at a fully stripped back set up for the first time.

Pulled Apart By Horses Release Video For Lizard Baby

With just over a month until the release of their highly anticipated third record, Pulled Apart By Horses have revealed the video for new single Lizard Baby.

“The glaringly colourful video for Lizard Baby is a visual juxtaposition of us playing, as we love to do, with some weird and wonderful ideas we came up with when collaborating with director Stephen Agnew (Drenge/The Cribs etc.),” explained guitarist James Brown.

Vocalist Tom Hudson added: “The meandering bass line and mysterious air to Lizard Baby goes hand in hand with the surreal, Italian art house inspired music video. Blending the iconic Dario Argento red, blue and green hued lighting alongside gonzo imagery to take us into the twisted world in which our Lizard Baby inhabits.”

A three minute hypnotic rock sleaze fest, Lizard Baby is the follow up to Hot Squash which received amazing responses, spent four weeks on the Radio 1 playlist and caused the NME to proclaim: “Pulled Apart By Horses are now a serious rock band”.  These two teasers from their new album Blood demonstrate the new musical and lyrical maturity the band have achieved since their last release.

Pulled Apart By Horses play a series of warm up shows across the country, preparing for their main stage Reading and Leeds Festival slots.

They will also be playing a string European dates, supported by Dinosaur Pile-UP for Dr. Martens’ #STANDFORSOMETHING Tour. Fans can enter to win a pair of tickets for the Paris show at www.drmartens.com/uk/Gig-Competition.

Pulled Apart By Horses Reveal New Single, Lizard Baby

Pulled Apart By Horses have announced details of the next release to be taken from their hotly anticipated third album Blood. Lizard Baby, which received it’s premiere on Radio 1 as Zane Lowe’s Hottest Record last night, is out on September 1 on the band’s own label Best of the Best through Sony Red.

Partly inspired by the birth of the royal baby last summer, you can make your own interpretation as to what that means…

“I guess it vaguely touches on the media and public attention given to people in the lime light and how people can adopt alter egos or change with power,” explains Pulled Apart By Horses front man, Tom Hudson. “There’s also a bit of a dig at bands and performers who put on a false show or a contrived act.”

A three minute hypnotic rock sleaze fest, Lizard Baby is the follow up to Hot Squash which received amazing responses, spent four weeks on the Radio 1 playlist and caused the NME to proclaim, “Pulled Apart By Horses are now a serious rock band”. Of the new track, Q said “…this time around they’ve slowed down their schtick to a stoner-rock chug on this snarling gem.” These two teasers from their new album Blood demonstrate the new musical and lyrical maturity the band have achieved since their last release.

Pulled Apart By Horses have also just confirmed some new regional UK dates in addition to their European dates for Dr Martins and main stage Reading and Leeds Festival slots.

You can catch Pulled Apart By Horses live on the following dates:
August
18 Coventry Kasbah
19 Nottingham Bodega
20 Liverpool East Village Arts Club
23 Reading Festival
24 Leeds Festival

September
8 Paris, Maroquinerie
9 Hamburg Molotow Exil
10 Copenhagen, Rust

Pulled Apart By Horses Release New Single, Hot Squash

Having ventured to the far corners of the UK over the last few weeks, breaking ceilings and leaving a trail of sweaty, delighted fans in their wake, Pulled Apart By Horses have finally confirmed details of their plans for 2014. Their brand new single Hot Squash, which is out on 23 June, received it’s debut Radio 1 play this week as the ‘Hottest Record In The World’ on Zane Lowe’s show.

The track was mixed by Rich Costey (Muse/Foo Fighters/Mastodon/The Mars Volta) and is the opening song on the band’s forthcoming third album Blood out 1 September 2014. The follow up to 2012’s Tough Love, it was recorded in the band’s hometown of Leeds with producer Matt Peel (Eagulls) and will be released on their new label Best of the Best through Sony/RED.

Hot Squash is their personal take on hypnotic desert rock with soaring riffs, topped by urgent and brooding vocals. With lyrics partly inspired by the Paul Thomas Anderson movie, The Master, drummer Lee Vincent explained: “When we were writing and recording Hot Squash I had just watched the film. Being a massive PTA fan I was blown away as usual and feeling suitably inspired I wrote a few lines of lyrics about cults and brainwashing. Tom [Hudson, vocals/guitar] elaborated on these and Hot Squash was born. I love the ambiguity of The Master, attacking such a huge subject with such subtlety is just genius in my eyes.”

The video is also now online, a surreal David Lynch-esque film by director Sing J Lee, who has previously worked with Chvrches and Gorgon City. He mysteriously described it as “…set beneath the quiet suburban life, we take a voyeuristic trip into a dark, nonsensical romance.”

As well as appearances over the last few weeks at The Great Escape, Live at Leeds and YO1 in York the band are confirmed to play the main stage at Reading and Leeds Festival later this summer.

Pulled Apart By Horses are Tom Hudson (vocals/guitar), James Brown (guitar), Lee Vincent (Drums) and Robert Lee (bass).

Pulled Apart By Horses To Reveal New Material At Charity Gig

Calling all Pulled Apart by Horses’ fans: super special intimate gig.

Sadly if you’re reading this now then you have missed out on your chance for a ticket to this special intimate gig. The gig will see the band preview their new material at London’s Electrowerkz on November 12. The tickets went on sale through the band’s website on Wednesday morning last week and sold out in only a couple of hours. Sorry to rub it in.

However, you can take some solace in the fact that the show is helping to raise money for a very worthy cause; the housing charity Shelter. The boys have confirmed that this will be their final live show of 2013. Known for their intense, frantic live shows (guitarist James Brown once ended up in hospital with a gash to the head) the Leeds four piece are a real force of nature when viewed in an environment such as this.

Pulled Apart by Horses are due to go back in the studio and start work on their third album, the follow up to 2012’s well received, Tough Love. Rumoured to be titled Papa Lulus 101 Fish Bowl Prank the record will continue the band’s relationship with Transgressive Records and is expected to be released in early 2014.

Introducing…Department M

Department M is the new project of Leeds-based Owen Brinley. The debut single from the artist, I’ll Fax You An Apology, is set for release on March 25 through Hide and Seek Records.

Brinley’s career as a DJ and binge-drinker in many Leeds nightclubs saw him suffering with Hyperacusis, an acute over-sensitivity to certain frequency ranges. He decided a lifestyle change was needed but giving up his love for music wasn’t an option.

Department M

Leeds-based alternative band, Department M

His condition over time created a tension, an adversary to battle against and something which informed the lyrical and musical elements that would mould Department M’s sound. Brinley uses bitter industrial noise in his compositions to compliment the prevalent 80s analogue synth he so loves – perhaps its his way of inflicting discomfort back onto the music, perhaps it eases his pain.

You can listen to the debut single, I’ll Fax You An Apology here. I’ll Fax You An Apology is a song with swooping, emotional vocals mixed with electronic rock style music. It really is a unique sound.

Department M got its name from the grey and dour drama, The Lives Of Others on the night Brinley recorded the first of his songs last year. The first demo was more designed than written, on an ancient Toshiba laptop with some stolen software and a missing enter key.

In between Brinley’s trips to the job centre, producer James Kenosha (Pulled Apart By Horses) pushed these recordings into the forefront. The sound of the project took on a surrealist future/retro adjacency, swathes of analogue synthesizer born in the same era as Brinley himself were stained with ad-libbed noise breaks and oscillations.

The results of these sessions, finished in mid 2012, were posted online and attracted the attention of Leeds label Hide And Seek Records.

With a live band now gigging together, Department M demands attention in 2013.

See Department M live on the following dates:

25th March – Old Blue Last, London  (Free entry)
27th March – Kraak Gallery, Manchester
29th March – Wharf Chambers, Leeds
