Marching Band Release New Video For Single, Die In My Arms

Marching Band

Sweden’s Marching Band

Swedish indie-pop duo Marching Band released the official music video for their single Die In My Arms which premiered on the weekend on Diffuser. Directed by band member Jacob Lind, the video shows a man with his two boys cycling through the streets of Sweden. We think he’s just on a leisure ride until he stops at a park to pick some flowers. Things take a somber turn when the trio ends up at a cemetery but the ending is uplifting and redemptive.

Die In My Arms is off of Marching Band’s newest album, So Much Imagine, out now. So Much Imagine marks a return to the band’s DIY roots while maintaining their trademark sound of intricate melodies and complex arrangements with an effortless, undeniable pop feeling. The 21-track, self-produced project from Linköping’s Jacob Lind and Erik Sunbring has a lighter and rawer approach than their previous releases, showcasing their maturity since their wildly popular 2008 debut Spark Large produced by Adam Lasus (Clap Your Hands Say Yeah!, Yo La Tengo).

Sinkane Acts As Musical Director And Producer For William Onyeabor Tribute Shows

City Slang recording artist Sinkane will be performing and directing a special set of classic jams by 1970s Nigerian synth pioneer, William Onyeabor, starting with The Barbican in London on 1 April 2014.

The core band for these tribute shows is Sinkane’s live band (Ahmed Gallab, jaytram, Ish Montgomery and Jonny Lam) with Pat Mahoney (LCD Soundsystem), Money Mark (Beastie Boys) and legendary Nigerian funk singers, The Lijadu Sisters, who will also be performing some of their classic material backed by Sinkane. This band will be joined in the UK by Damon Albarn, Ghost Poet, Alexis Taylor (Hot Chip), Kele Okereke (Bloc Party) and others. The US shows will feature David Bryne, Alexis Taylor, Tunde Adebimpe, Luke Jenner, Joshua Redman and others.

“It has been an honour to work with some of my heroes”, Gallab explains. “William Onyeabor’s music helped shape the sound of Sinkane as have the musicians involved. Jason Trammell, Ish Montgomery, Jonny Lam, Pat Mahoney, Money Mark and I have become a family. This is a dream come true.”

Sinkane, who has earned musical stripes playing with the likes of Eleanor Friedberger, Of Montreal & Caribou, released his exceptional and unique debut album, Mars, last year to great applause. Mars saw Sinkane seamlessly blend deep, polyrhythmic grooves that refer as much to early 70’s underground soul as back to Sudan, Gallab’s home country, into a 21st century party record that acknowledges the international musical village in which we all now live.

His work on the William Onyeabor shows sees Gallab taking a break from creating the follow up to Mars which we can expect to hear in the not too distant future.

Gallab said: “I want to create universal music. A sound and feeling that everyone can enjoy because they can relate to the sounds and words. I feel like I’ve come close to creating that music on this next record.”

You can catch Sinkane and collaborators recreating the works of William Onyeabor at the following shows:

2 Apr 2014- Bristol @ Colston Hall (info)

Gustavo De Beauville Releases Debut Solo Album, Volume I

Gustavo De Beauville is a self-taught artist, musician/guitarist and producer from Airdrie, Alberta. He has contributed to bands, games, film and now, his first venture into the solo world with his debut instrumental CD, Volume 1. This new album is a collection of instrumentals, ranging from epic and atmospheric post-rock to electronic and industrial sounds. You can listen to Volume I in full here.

About his unique musical style, De Beauville said: “I feel most alive when creating music. As a self-taught artist I appreciate the effort and dedication it takes to make technically sound recordings. Since I work best alone, necessity has driven me to embrace multiple instruments. It was through approaching these from my own perspective that forged my sound.”

As one half of the metal/rock duo The Unravelling, he won the 2010 Alberta Metal Award for Best Production as well as a nomination for Best Track for his work on the full-length CD, 13 Arcane Hymns. 13 Arcane Hymns received wide acclaim, receiving nods from Metalsucks, Metal-rules.com, Pure Grain Audio and Scene In The Dark. Gustavo wrote the music and produced the album (with mixing/mastering by Casey Lewis of Echo Base Studios) while Steve Moore contributed lyrics/vocals.

The new album Volume 1 is available at CD Baby and Bandcamp. Gustavo is currently planning a series of follow up solo releases as well as working on new material with The Unravelling.

Hero also appears on her upcoming release, the Hero EP, out on April 14.

Elizaveta said: “When I was approached by Pegboard Nerds, Hero was in the final mixing stages. I feel the resulting track has taken my song in the right direction and amplified its epic qualities. I loved the Superman with GoPro video and it was incredible to watch something become viral naturally like that. I have already been contacted by other artists to do more collaborations of this kind and I can’t wait to see where this new avenue takes me creatively.”

Boasting her best work to date, the five song Hero EP is the first work of new material since Elizaveta’s 2012 Universal Republic release, Beatrix Runs. Complex and multi-layered, the Hero EP takes listeners on an intricate musical journey with a unique blend of pop melody, piano hooks, electronic soundscapes and dreamy vocals. The first single, Hero was written, produced and arranged by Elizaveta and it’s her first completely independent production effort.

Lauded as “…a brilliant musical innovator” by CBS, Elizaveta’s music has been featured in films and TV shows such as Pretty Little Liars, So You Think You Can Dance and Scandal among others. She has toured widely both in Europe and the United States and is currently touring in her native Russia with ultra-popular Russian stars B-2 and a symphony orchestra and has an upcoming performance on April 5 in Minsk, Belarus for 15,000 people.

Dirty River Set To Release Their Debut Self-Titled Album Next Month

New York-based trio Dirty River are preparing for the release of their debut self-titled album due out April 15 via Fleeting Youth Records. But in the mean time, they have revealed their first single, Releaf.

Releaf is a smartly penned tribute to weed personified by two separate encounters with two different women. Lead singer Forrest Hackenbrock’s austere vocals crawl like freshly exhaled smoke over tramping drums and hazy guitars that’ll leave you just as relaxed and euphoric as the leaf he pays homage to.

Hailing from Rhinebeck, New York, Dirty River is a rock trio that delivers debauched experiences and fantasies deadpan over serpentine open D rhythms. Their alternative take on lo-fi rock develops thick and murky like jungle fog, giving weight to lead singer Forrest Hackenbrock’s stark, blasé breath. His tales of numbness, despair and depravity are matched with resonant, wanton guitar fuzz and naked downbeats that feel uncomfortable yet alluring to the ears like dirty secrets.

Dirty River’s 11 track self-titled debut is a great introduction to a band that understands the power minimalism imposes on rock music and the majority of its listeners. Dirty River’s bare approach forces their purges to penetrate and cloak your soul in their own lewd dreck, leaving you feeling dazed and dirty– just how rock and roll is supposed to make you feel.
