The Milk Carton Kids To Appear On CBS This Morning: Saturday

The acclaimed Los Angeles based duo The Milk Carton Kids will be appearing on the national morning show CBS This Morning: Saturday this February 22. The group will be performing songs from their Grammy Nominated album, The Ash & Clay.

In the past months, The Milk Carton Kids have generated some well deserved attention with notable appearances on both Austin City Limits and Prairie Home Companion. The duo were also featured in the Showtime documentary Another Day / Another Time: Celebrating the Music of Inside Llewyn Davis, a film documenting a benefit concert held last September celebrating the music of the Coen Brothers’ film, Inside Llewyn Davis.

The New York Times Magazine recently reviewed their sold out performance at Lincoln Center’s American Songbook series in The Allen Room writing, “There is something almost unnatural about the mellifluous harmonies of The Milk Carton Kids, something freakish. It’s hard to believe that two people can sync to each other like that” and proclaiming that the duo’s “guitar virtuosity” and “gentle blended voice and their puckish banter” “projected a kind of old-fashion authenticity in an Auto-Tune world.”

The Milk Carton Kids will be touring North American this Spring in support of their album The Ash & Clay.

The Milk Carton Kids have been nominated for a Grammy for the Best Folk Album for their debut, The Ash & Clay, which was released earlier this year.

The folk duo are also featured in a new Showtime special entitled Another Day, Another Time. The film documents the benefit concert held last September in New York City celebrating the music of the new Coen Brothers’ film, Inside Llewyn Davis, which is set in the 1960s Greenwich Village folk music scene. The concert was produced by the Coens and T Bone Burnett, the film’s soundtrack producer. Along with The Milk Carton Kids, the film features performances from the Avett Brothers, Joan Baez, Marcus Mumford, Punch Brothers, Patti Smith, Jack White and more.

Below is a preview of a scene of The Milk Carton Kids rehearsing their song Snake Eyes for rapt onlookers including Punch Brothers, Marcus Mumford, T Bone Burnett and the Coens.

The Milk Carton Kids Announce 2014 Tour Dates

Following a triumphant performance on Austin City Limits and a third appearance on A Prairie Home Companion, Los Angeles duo The Milk Carton Kids have announced a series of North American tour dates for the Spring of 2014 playing in support of their acclaimed Anti- Records release, The Ash & Clay.

The Milk Carton Kids were featured in two PBS television events last week. First, the PBS documentary Nashville 2.0: The Rise of Americana aired on November 22 nationwide and highlighted the duo’s shaping of the new Americana movement. The Milk Carton Kids Perform At Telluride

Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan have kept themselves busy since the two Californian natives formed the band The Milk Carton Kids in 2011. Since 2011 they have continued to make ground in the ‘nu folk’ music industry and 2013 has been an interesting year for the two.

Their new album, Ash and Clay released in March of this year, lead to The Milk Carton Kids invitation to play at the 40th Telluride Music festival three months later. The duo played on the Thursday day time making their main stage debut. They made quite the impression sporting matching suits. They ignited the dozy festival crowd by playing the fan favourite Girls, Gather Round from their first album Retrospect.

It is not only festival crowds that Pattengale and Ryan have been pleasing, The Milk Carton Kids have also appeared on the new PBS Documentary, Nashville 2.0: The Rise of Americana. The documentary was co-directed by Carol Stein and Susan Wittenberg, the same two directors who made the film Women Who Rock. The hour long broadcast will air on PBS on 22 November and will feature some of today’s best country and folk artists.

The good news does not stop there for the two musicians as they are set to tape an episode on the prestigious Austin City Limits. There has been a really positive buzz surrounding the duo with the New York Times dubbing them: “a sweetly dazzling variation on close-harmony vocals, part Simon and Garfunkel and part Everly Brothers with occasional acoustic prestidigitation.” This continued coverage will persist to push The Milk Carton Kids towards the public eye which could change the face of the apparent ‘folk revival’ that has been spearheaded by the popular bands such as Mumford and Sons.
