Two Wounded Birds – The Outer World

With only three weeks until Two Wounded Birds release their self-titled debut album, they have revealed brand new track, The Outer World.

Two Wounded Birds

Two Wounded Birds

The Outer World is one of the record’s more melancholic tunes. With sad guitar riffs and droning yet pleasant vocals, this track shows the deeper side to band, a side which hasn’t been shown in their previous work. Listen to The Outer World here.

Two Wounded Birds will be released on June 4 on Jacob Graham’s (The Drums) label, Holiday Recordings. Jacob Graham has this to say about the band: “It’s easy to see why these rising stars caught the ears of such legends as Brian Wilson and Debbie Harry. Their songs capture the American spirit with clear allegiances to the Beach Boys, the Ramones and Elvis—all while still acknowledging the band’s British roots. You won’t hear any Elton John-style American accents here; instead, Johnny Danger’s sound recalls the velvety tones of Colin Blunstone in his Zombies heyday—a voice with true character.

“In an age in which the shroud of “pop” can describe any poorly constructed jingle that comes along, it’s nice to see the dust settle and discover the genuine article…. Here you will find proof that sincere pop songs are truly timeless.”

Two Wounded Birds have managed to grab the attention of Debbie Harry and Brian Wilson after their single and EP releases. Not only this but they also managed to land themselves gigs playing shows with Grouplove, The Black Lips and The Drums among other festivals.

Jacob Graham (The Drums) describes Two Wounded Birds’ music: “It’s easy to see why these rising stars caught the ears of such legends as Brian Wilson and Debbie Harry. The Drums – How It Ended

The Drums are back with their second single from their new album, Portamento.

How It Ended is another great track from The Drums. Staying completely loyal to their original surfing sound, this is a song that is close to front man Jonny Pierce. With the video filmed in London, Jonny expresses his contentment with the capital and the video:

The Drums

The Drums

“[London] is a place that brings me a good level of comfort and at the same time keeps me on edge, which I think any great city should do.

“We took three days for filming which happened to be the same three days that we were playing a few small intimate shows around London. It made us a bit nostalgic because it was just like the first time we came to London as a band, and our worlds changed forever.”

Director Patrick Roberts said: “For Jonny, this is a very personal song. We wanted to convey a tone of recollection, memory, and longing. While the lyrical content could refer to a person, we wanted to play with the idea that it could also refer to a place.

“We chose to incorporate figures that were ghostly, painterly, and saturated in color. We wanted a video that retained a sense of human touch. Something visceral and intimate.”

The Drums are back in the UK in November for a full UK Tour. For details see The Drums.com.

How It Ended is to be released on October 31.

The Drums announce new album

After their spooky teaser trailer for Portamento, The Drums have finally released more details about their second album, which is out on September 12.

The first track to be taken from the new record, Money, was aired on Radio 1 last Tuesday. It also now available for streaming online.

The Drums

The Drums

Money stays true to The Drums’ original sound. The beach song sounds typically found in their hits such as Let’s Go Surfing are still plentiful but the album is said to have a deeper, more personal tone for lyricist Jonny Pierce.

It’s a great summer song with happy guitar and bubbly lyrics. Jonny Pierce’s vocals have an element of the 80s about them, a slight hint of Duran Duran perhaps. Mix this with the beach style of the music and you have a perfect track.

Money is out on September 5.

In conjunction with the release of their heavily anticipated second album, the trio is doing a string of gigs in the run up to the release date. The dates are as follows:

July 16 Lovebox Festival London
September 05 London Hoxton Bar & Kitchen
September 06 London Lexington
September 07 London XOYO
September 08 Bestival Isle of Wight
September 17 SPLIT Festival Sunderland

The Drums – Portamento

Brooklyn based band The Drums have returned with a second album, Portamento.

The indie-pop band have released a teaser trailer of what’s to come on youtube and their official website, thedrums.com. It shows grainy black and white images of them in live sessions recording their new record.

The word, Portamento, frequently flashes up on screen giving the video, combined with the soothing, synthesised music, an even more hypnotic effect. Something which I believe feels a little like mind control, maybe to make you buy the album…

Little is known about what’s to come from this band. This teaser trailer is the only thing available to hint at what might follow after their self-titled debut last year. A rather clever PR campaign I think…
