Chad VanGaalen Releases The Video For Single, Monster

After his performance at End of the Road Festival last weekend and headline show at London’s Oslo this coming Monday, you can now watch Chad VanGaalen’s animated directorial creation for Monster, the official video from Shrink Dust, his critically acclaimed fifth album.

The video is a suitably psychedelic affair featuring, of course, all sorts of monsters.

Chad VanGaalen’s previously announced European tour in support of Shrink Dust, kicked off this Sunday August 31 in North Dorset, UK at End of the Road Festival and ends on September 15 in Tilburg, NL at Incubate.

Shrink Dust has earned Chad VanGaalen some of the best reviews of his career with praise from the likes of Magnet, Pitchfork, Consequence of Sound, BLURT, FILTER, NME, Loud & Quiet, Exclaim, Relix, NOW, Music OMH and more. At radio, Shrink Dust spent three weeks in top 10 on the CMJ albums chart.

Recently,  Chad VanGaalen visited KEXP for a wonderful & hilarious performance in support of Shrink Dust. You can also listen to Chad VanGaalen: A Beginners Guide, a collection of his songs from over the years, thoughtfully prepared by the employees of Sub Pop, label mates and friends.

Chad VanGaalen’s Shrink Dust is now available on CD/LP /DL in the U.S. and Europe via Sub Pop. The album is also available in Canada via Flemish Eye. Shrink Dust, featuring the songs Where Are You? and Monster was produced by VanGaalen at his Yoko Eno home studio in Calgary, Alberta.

Chad VanGaalen Releases New Track, Monster

Chad VanGaalen has released his latest track, Monster, taken from his upcoming album, Shrink Dust, which will be released later this month.

Stereogum premiered the track yesterday saying, “It might seem strange that Calgary singer/songwriter Chad VanGaalen took inspiration from both the Flying Burrito Brothers and the Alejandro Jodorowsky and Moebius comic The Incal but Monster, his new single from the upcoming Shrink Dust, gives that a bit of perspective. VanGaalen lays out lines about his skin changing and his fingers falling off only to be replaced by talons as bustling guitar and group vocals give the whole song a camp fire glow. It’s a nice combination between the familiar and the alien”.

No Age To Release Fourth Album, An Object

No Age will release their fourth album, An Object on CD, LP and digitally on August 19 in Europe and on August 20 in North America via Sub Pop. The album led by highlights “I Won’t Be Your Generator,” “C’mon, Stimmung,” “An Impression,” and “Lock Box” was recorded by F. Bermudez and No Age at Gaucho’s Electronics in Los Angeles.

No Age

No Age

With An Object, their fourth full-length album, No Age has forgone the straight and narrow route, landing in a strange and unexpected place with their feet planted in fresh, fertile soil. This new LP finds drummer/vocalist Dean Spunt exploding from behind his kit. He lands percussive blows with amplified contact mics, 4-string bass guitars and prepared speakers as well as traditional forms of lumber and metal. Meanwhile, guitarist Randy Randall corrals his previously lush, spastic and sprawling arrangements into taught and refined rats’ nests. Lyrically Spunt challenges space, fracturing ideological forms and complacency which creates a striking new perspective that reveals thematic preoccupations with structural ruptures and temporal limits.

As the title An Object suggests, these eleven tracks (produced by No Age and their long-time collaborator Facundo Bermudez who recorded tracks on their Weirdo Rippers LP (2007) and toured with the band in support of Everything In Between (2010)), are meant to be grasped, not simply heard. Whether in the fine grit of Randall’s sandpaper guitar scrapes on “Defector/ed” or Spunt’s percussive stomp and crack on “Circling with Dizzy” and “An Impression”, these are songs that pivot on the sheer materiality of music-making. Spunt’s creative deployment of bass guitar accented through a modified speaker on the beautifully catchy “I Won’t Be Your Generator” is a case in point: even at its most lyrical An Object incorporates the process of its creation into the very backbone of the songs.

An Object will be released on August 19 in Europe and on August 20 in North America through Sub Pop.
