Manchester’s incendiary indie four-piece City Reign are to release new live single See What It’s Worth on 24 March. Their debut LP, Another Step, received widespread critical acclaim upon its release in February 2013, sparking interest from national press – Q, Uncut, The Independent, Clash, This Is Fake DIY – and resulting in two UK and European tours.
The band’s classic take on indie rock was captured by producer Sam Jones who has previously recorded with Arctic Monkeys front man Alex Turner. He used the natural reverb of Salford’s Sacred Trinity Church to add depth to their sound and the result is a record that stands head and shoulders above the indie landfill. Previous single, Making Plans, prompted plays from Steve Lamacq on BBC 6Music who declared them to be one of his favourite new bands and spins have accrued from Amazing Radio and BBC Introducing too. See What It’s Worth looks set to follow suit – its screeching guitar riffs and impassioned vocals proving that Manchester has another band to champion in its long history of musical success.
City Reign are set for a live return to road test new material from their second album. Selling out The Castle Hotel two months in advance, the show has been upgraded to Gullivers.
You can catch City Reign live on the following dates:
March 18 – London, Old Blue Last – w/The Wild Feathers
March 21 – Manchester, Gullivers
Mancunian indie rockers City Reign set off on a national tour last week that includes a support slot for Bella Union’s Concrete Knives.
The band have released a behind-the-scenes video to show their fans what they got up to in the rehearsal studio. Just a heads up – you will be surprised at how glamorous their rehearsal space is…You can view the video below.
Not only have they been busy rehearsing for their tour, they have also compiled a playlist as requested by Q Magazine. As City Reign recorded their album in Salford’s Sacred Trinity Church, Q Magazine asked them to curate a playlist of their favourite tracks that were recorded in odd places. They picked a varied bunch, including Johnny Cash, Doves, Bon Iver, U2 and My Morning Jacket. The playlist can be found on Spotify here.
Their single Making Plans is set for release on February 25 with their debut album, Another Step being released on March 11.

Mancunian indie rockers City Reign have announced the release of their first single Making Plans. The song is taken from their forthcoming debut album Another Step.
Making Plans caught the attention of Steve Lamacq from BBC 6 Music who played the demo as soon as he heard it. He also finished his show on Monday night with another track, Anchor also taken from the upcoming album.
City Reign are song-writing duo, Chris Bull and Mike Grice with Duncan Bolton on drums. The single follows taster tracks City Reign released as free downloads such as Ahead of Ideas and Retaliate. Ahead of Ideas shot the band onto the UK touring scene and led to Clash Magazine asking them to open their inaugural issue launch gig in Manchester.

The band eventually teamed up with Mancunian producer, Sam Jones to record and re-work the album. He took them to Sacred Trinity Church in Salford after choosing the church for its rich natural reverb. He hoped this would help bring depth to the band’s classic guitar sound.
City Reign are clearly inspired by Placebo. This can be heard strongly in their first single, Making Plans. The vocals are very Molko-esque while the music is very typical of the English indie style.
The single, Making Plans and debut album, Another Step are both set for release on February 25. The video was shot in Manchester’s legendary Night and Day venue where the band played their first gig.
You can catch City Reign live at the following dates in February:

Friday 15th – Glasgow – Buff Club
Wednesday 20th – Cardiff – Buffalo Bar
Thursday 21st – Bristol – Golden Lion
