Chad VanGaalen has released his latest track, Monster, taken from his upcoming album, Shrink Dust, which will be released later this month.
Stereogum premiered the track yesterday saying, “It might seem strange that Calgary singer/songwriter Chad VanGaalen took inspiration from both the Flying Burrito Brothers and the Alejandro Jodorowsky and Moebius comic The Incal but Monster, his new single from the upcoming Shrink Dust, gives that a bit of perspective. VanGaalen lays out lines about his skin changing and his fingers falling off only to be replaced by talons as bustling guitar and group vocals give the whole song a camp fire glow. It’s a nice combination between the familiar and the alien”.
Chad VanGaalen’s previously announced North American tour dates in support of Shrink Dust begin on May 14. Additionally, there are two new UK shows to mention: August 31 at End of the Road Festival and September 1 in London at Oslo.
Chad VanGaalen will release Shrink Dust on CD/LP/DL April 28 in Europe and April 29 in the US via Sub Pop. The album will also be available in Canada via Flemish Eye. It was produced by VanGaalen at his Yoko Eno home studio in Calgary, Alberta.
Pre-orders of Shrink Dust via iTunes will receive an instant download of Where Are You? and Monster immediately. The album is also available for pre-order at Sub Pop’s Chad VanGaalen artist page. People who pre-order Shrink Dust on LP at subpop.com will receive the limited “Loser Edition” of the album on coloured vinyl. Additionally, there are three new items featuring Chad’s artwork to mention: A booklet of original artwork featuring crazy frisbee moves available with all pre-orders (while supplies last) and two new T-shirt designs available to purchase with CD and LP bundles.
