Spin.com is premiering a new music video by the acclaimed new artist Broken Twin, who the New Musical Express recently proclaimed: “The most arrestingly beautiful songwriter we’ve heard in aeons.” The clip features an imaginative reinterpretation of the Johnny Thunders classic, You Can’t Put Your Arms Around A Memory, performed by singer-songwriter Majke Voss Romme aka Broken Twin.
Romme explained: “I stumbled upon this song and instantly loved the title and I love his version. The slightly off vocal, the energy. I also knew that I would have to do something completely different with the song if I did it. I like that. When covers don’t replicate the original. With this song I didn’t have to worry about doing that.”
The video beautifully documents a heartfelt performance from Romme and band shot in stark black and white. Romme said: “We shot this while rehearsing for our first show ever as a band. It’s always nerve wrecking playing live with new people for the first time. I like those moments. It makes everyone so tense and aware. It’s vulnerable. No one wants to be the one fucking up.”
Broken Twin’s new album May is currently in stores. Described by the magazine Drowned In Sound as “…one of the most exquisite and haunting albums you’ll hear all year,” the record is comprised primarily of piano, strings and Romme’s beautifully evocative vocals. The album was self-produced by Broken Twin and mixed by Ian Caple (Kate Bush, Tindersticks, Tricky) and Brian Batz.
