Soul/gospel legend Mavis Staples is the subject of a new book entitled I’ll Take You There – Mavis Staples, The Staples Singers, and The March Up Freedom’s Highway which arrives in stores on January 21. The authorised biography by acclaimed journalist and author Greg Kot details Staples’ fascinating personal history as well as her profound and multi-faceted role in music, culture and the civil rights movement.

Staples, already a Rock And Roll Hall of Fame inductee, was recently nominated for a Grammy Award for her latest album One True Vine in the Best Americana Album category. The record is Staples’ second collaboration with Wilco’s Jeff Tweedy and the follow-up to 2010’s Grammy-winning, You Are Not Alone.
