Belfast four-piece Girls Names have shared their cover of Brian Eno’s Third Uncle taken from their new EP titled The Next Life. The EP, which is to be released on 28 October through Tough Love/Slumberland, features the Brian Eno cover and two other remixes by David Holmes and Factory Floor. The Next Life is available to pre-order now through the Tough Love store.
Girls Names released their critically acclaimed second album, The New Life, in February marking a new direction for the band. That directional shift is emphasised even further by The Next Life.
Third Uncle is the first recorded Girls Names track to feature new drummer Gib Cassidy and offers a telling glimpse at what creative steps the band may take next. There’s an identity and construction reminiscent of Joy Division with vocals of a Jarvis Cocker style. This band is probably worth seeing live and their value is clearly recognised with tour dates alongside The Cult.
