Introducing…Pick A Piper

In November City Slang records will release Pick A Piper’s self-titled debut album. Caribou drummer Brad Weber is the driving force behind the project with help from friends Angus Fraser and Dan Roberts and guest vocals from members of Ruby Suns, Braids and Born Ruffians.

Pick A Piper

Pick A Piper are aiming for an eclectic album that manages to occupy that rare space of music that works as well on record as it does on the dance floor (looking at you Caribou). Far from being a new project, Weber and chums formed the group four years ago. They have already released two EPs and the lead single from the new record, All Her Colours, has been doing the rounds for nearly a year now.

Though Pick A Piper will be keen to avoid too many Caribou comparisons they do share a penchant for psychedelic tripping imagery, both in their videos and band promos. It’s safe to say that fans of Caribou will find a lot to love about Pick A Piper. The record sees the band trying out a diverse range of genres, helped by the rotating selection of different vocalists but there’s one thing they all have in common; rhythm. According to Weber, the group approaches song writing “back to front”, beginning with the rhythm structure and then building the tracks layers on top. With this manifesto as well as all his years behind the kit at Caribou’s intense live shows, Pick A Piper should make for a very interesting record.

Pick A Piper’s self-titled debut album will be released on 4 November through City Slang.
