Field Report is the creation of Chris Porterfield who cut his musical teeth with Justin Vernon (Bon Iver) and the members of Megafaun in the now-legendary band DeYarmond Edison.
After their band broke up in 2006, Justin Vernon went on to create Bon Iver and the rest of DeYarmond Edison sought fame and fortune as Megafaun within the music business while Chris hung back in Wisconsin to start a new chapter in his relationship with music. Chris Porterfield took pen to paper for the first time and started writing his own songs. It took him five years to perfect these songs to make Field Report’s debut album which is set for release on May 27 through Partisan Records.
Now under the mask of Field Report, Porterfield has revealed a video for album cut, I’m Not Waiting Anymore. Porterfield told NPR: “It became almost a mantra for me. The song is about getting over past mistakes and circumstances and embracing our own agency in life. We all have choices to make daily. The video treatment that Manny [Marquez, director] and his team gave it created a whole new rich narrative layer while staying true to the theme which I feel is that, when you give your ghosts permission to stop haunting, you can take the next step forward.”
Field Report (Christopher Porterfield (Guitar, Vocals), Ben Lester (Pedal Steel), Damian Strigens (Drums), Jeff Mitchell (Guitar), Nick Berg (Piano, Keyboards, Synths) and Travis Whitty (Bass)) is a cross between Mumford and Sons and Bon Iver. I’m Not Waiting Anymore will leave you feeling inspired. The video is an emotional tale that sees a man look through his past mistakes and regrets, wishing he had taken the bull by the horns at the time, so to speak. The song highlights the fact that we should all live our lives to the full, that we should all snatch at opportunities so we don’t look back and think, “I wish I’d done that when I had the chance”. So what if that choice turns out to have been the wrong one? You could at least say, “Well at least I gave it a shot.” Porterfield has a unique knack at writing songs that pull at the heart strings while also being wholly inspirational. I’m Not Waiting Anymore is a triumphant song.
