Brooklyn-based multi-instrumentalist Emily Wells has announced the details of her European album release alongside the news that her single Becomes The Colour is featured on the soundtrack for new Park Chan-Wook film Stoker staring Nicole Kidman.
Her album Mama will be available from June 3 through Partisan Records as a special double album package featuring the full record and an entirely acoustic recording of the album. Mama combines subtle hip-hop inflections and wide-ranging sounds paired with Emily’s feminine vocals. Emily Wells has created an album that is simultaneously light and delicate with a punch of personality.
Mama was recorded in a cabin on a horse ranch in Tapanga Canyon last year. Most of the instruments featured on Mama were recorded and produced by Wells. With Wells’ background being classical (she is a trained classical violinist), you wouldn’t expect her to play the drums and keyboards in the style she does.
Emily Well’s brand new track Becomes The Colour is featured on the soundtrack to new thriller, Stoker, alongside the original score by Clint Mansell and new music by Philip Grass. The film features Hollywood actress Nicole Kidman. Stoker premièred on March 1 in the UK. The soundtrack was released on February 25 through Warner Bros.
Becomes The Colour is a haunting song filled with hip-hop influences showcased mainly in Wells’ rap-style vocals. The disjointed music creates an atmosphere that is just right for a thriller. Becomes The Colour is available now.
