Blues-rock band Heartless Bastards are set to release their new single Got To Have Rock And Roll on February 25 through Partisan Records. The single follows the release of their album, Arrow, back in December. The band also performed their first UK show since 2010 tonight.
The Ohioan based band are often compared to their fellow Texan blues-rock outfit, The Black Keys and this comparison is spot on. Got To Have Rock And Roll is a song that could easily be performed by the likes of The Black Keys. It’s a great blues track with fantastic soulful vocals oozing everything American.
The Lexington show tonight was the first UK show for the Heartless Bastards since growing to a four-piece with a new guitarist. Arrow serves as the recorded debut of Heartless Bastards’ current iteration, their latest and greatest line-up since remarkable front woman Erika Wennerstrom first convened the band back in 2003.
Drummer Dave Colvin and bassist Jesse Ebaugh – both of whom played on the Bastards’ first-ever demo recordings (which were discovered and championed by fellow Texans and friends, The Black Keys) – returned to the fold in order to play live behind their last album, ‘The Mountain’. Soon after embarking on tour, Wennerstrom decided to put more meat on the band’s raw bones by enlisting guitarist Mark Nathan who had ostensibly come aboard to handle the live sound.
